NINS Collaborative Innovation System

NINS Collaborative Innovation Policy

NINS is composed of inter-university research institutes covering various fields related to the natural sciences, and its main mission is creative academic research. In addition, NINS contributes to society through collaborative innovation, collaboration with local communities, and human resource development, in accordance with the National Institutes of Natural Sciences Charter. Through the interaction between the promotion of academic research and industry-academia collaborative innovation, we will also accurately adapt the research results to the demands of society, and achieve both the return of research results to society and the further progress of academic research.
In April 2019, NINS formulated the "National Institute of Natural Sciences Collaborative Innovation Policy.” Of which, the idea about collaborative innovation is defined as follows. For the Collaborative Innovation Policy refer to Collaborative Innovation Policy.

  1. Collaborative innovation is strongly promoted according to the fields in which the characteristics of the institute can be effectively demonstrated and the responsibilities of the institute.
  2. NINS and the institutes form a system necessary for strengthening collaborative innovation, and promote collaborative innovation based on common standards.
  3. Collaborative innovation between NINS and companies or public institutions is based on collaboration based on clear contracts between organizations, and is promoted while ensuring transparency.
  4. Intellectual property and R & D information are appropriately protected and managed.
  5. Through collaborative innovation, the development of a wide range of human resources, including human resources with advanced knowledge and skills and human resources with free ideas and a broad perspective is promoted.
  6. Appropriately manage and coordinate ethical issues such as conflicts of interest and responsibilities between NINS and society.
  7. When promoting research in collaboration with external institutions such as the private sector (hereinafter referred to as "private institutions"), for the necessary expenses, clarify the cost burdern of not only the expenses related to direct research, but also the indirect expenses and the basic expenses related to the promotion of collaborative innovation and appropriately implement it based on the share of private organizations.
  8. In promoting collaborative innovation, NINS ensures sufficient transparency and be accountable when investing its own funds.

NINS Collaborative Innovation System

NINS promotes collaborative innovation based on contracts for academic consultation, joint research, delegated research, etc. We also operate the NINS industry-academia-government collaboration membership system for the purpose of fostering networks with industries.
